Der Kommunalausschuss des Münchner Stadtrats hat in seiner Sitzung vom 6. Mai die Benennung einer Straße nach dem deutschen Gestalter Otl Aicher beschlossen. Damit wird einer Vorlage von Bürgermeisterin Christine Strobl (SPD) aus dem Jahr 2002 entsprochen. Die ausgewählte Straße befindet sich im Stadtbezirk 12 Schwabing-Freimann; sie verbindet durch ihren annähernd rechtwinkligen Verlauf die Leopold- mit der Domagkstraße.

Rückblick: Die Initiative »München braucht eine Otl-Aicher-Straße«
Otl Aicher ist ein Klassiker der visuellen Kommunikation – nicht zuletzt auch durch sein Wirken als Gestaltungsbeauftragter der Olympischen Spiele von 1972. Nun, da sich München um die Austragung der Winterspiele 2018 bewirbt, ist es höchste Zeit, einen der größten deutschen Gestalter des 20. Jahrhunderts durch die Benennung einer Straße zu ehren. Was allerdings nicht so einfach ist, wie es klingt.
Am 29. Februar 2008 fand ein erstes Treffen im Rahmen des diesjährigen Designparcours (der passenderweise unter dem Motto »Generationen« stand) in den Räumen von KMS TEAM – den Initiatoren der Aktion – statt
Aktuell: Vom 1. Bis 6 Juni 2008 findet die vierte Architekturwoche »A4« in München statt. Das Projekt Odeon-K67, ein »Kultur-Kiosk als urbaner Zeichenspender«, fungiert dabei auf dem Odeonsplatz als Infobox und Meeting-Point. Im Rahmen seiner Aktion mit Architektur-Miniaturen und Straßenschildern hält Odeon-K67 auch »Otl-Aicher-Straße«-Magnetschilder sowie weitere Informationen zu unserer Initiative bereit.
